The latest results from the Food Sustainability Index, which measured data from 67 countries, are in. Nations are ranked based on 3 criteria: food waste, agricultural practices, and nutritional measures.

So, who comes out on top? Here are the leading 10:

  1. France
  2. Netherlands
  3. Canada
  4. Finland
  5. Japan
  6. Denmark
  7. Czech Republic
  8. Sweden
  9. Austria
  10. Hungary

Why didn’t the U.S. make it? According to the authors of the report, “a high level of greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector, a low proportion of land set aside for organic farming (less than 1% of the total) and a relatively large amount of land (around 22%) devoted to biofuel production and animal feed” were contributing factors.
